I usually walk into a hardware store and buy a six-foot long “4×4” as they call them. (They are actually 3.5 x 3.5 inches and by the time you sand them down they end up being closer to 3.25 x 3.25 inches) You can even have the hardware store cut them down for you if you ask nicely. Now you are ready to start crafting! How to make wooden block Minecraft Jack O’ Lanternsīefore you print out your printable, make sure to measure your blocks. The printable is designed for 3.25 x 3.25 inch cubes but I found that my blocks were even smaller than that and the edges were rounded, making the paper roll over the edge and creating some overlap which didn’t fare very well as you’ll see below (FUTURE PINTEREST FAIL!). To fix that problem I printed my printable out at 95% and it came out perfectly (see below how I troubleshooted this problem).Ĭlick Here to Print the Minecraft Jack o’ LanternĬut out all the squares on the printable. ![]() You’ll notice that you have one pumpkin top, two faces and three pumpkin sides which is one too many if you use both faces. ![]() I did this so that you could choose if you wanted your Minecraft jack o’ lantern block “lit” or not. Or you can make your Minecraft jack o’ lantern two-faced and put one on each opposite side. Once all your squares are cut out and you feel good about how they fit on the wooden blocks paint a layer of Mod Podge over the top of your first side (see picture above on the right). Then gently place the paper down on the Modge Podge and paint another layer of Modge Podge glue on top. You can also consider using transparent or partial blocks in areas that are off the main path, so that mobs can't spawn there and you don't need to struggle to find the right lighting. But since torches/jack-o-lanterns are easy to get in bulk, you can place them 3-4 blocks down every 4 blocks or so and your ground should be fully lit. As discussed in the link a couple others have posted, the light level can't be above 12 for any given block, or the snow will melt. Snow! If your base is in an area where snow is appropriate, you can place a torch, jack-o-lantern, or glowstone/sea lantern block a few blocks deep, with a couple glass blocks or your preferred transparent block, and then put snow on top flush with the ground. Another good one is to just stick a fence post one block up from the ground against the wall, and place a torch on top of the post, giving a sort of torch bracket look. If your base has a wall around it, you can use wood/stone detailing and place torches in recessed alcoves along the wall. Then fill in the trench with water.ĭecorative torches: Torches can work well, if you place them in a creative way. and place glowstone in the bottom, so your trench is now one deep (you can do every block, every other, every 4th, etc. Lit waterway: Dig a 1-wide, 2-deep trench on either side of your main pathway, or along your farm, etc. Light poles: One cobble wall, two wooden fence posts, and a glowstone block (optional: place trapdoors on each face of the glowstone for some detailing). ![]()
